Notes: The Barolo Riserva Villero, designated as Barolo D.O.C.G., is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes sourced from the Villero vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, one of the most significant vineyards in the Barolo area. The vineyard faces south/southwest, covers just over one hectare, and has vines averaging 47 years old with a density of 4,200 vines per hectare. In 2016, the yield was about 42 hectoliters per hectare. The grapes were harvested on October 5 and gently pressed, with the juice fermenting for around 4 months in a steel tank, in contact with the skins and regular pumping-overs. This period includes pre- and post-fermentation maceration using the traditional submerged-cap method, with malolactic fermentation taking place in wood. The wine is aged for around 30 months in large oak casks. It has a ruby red color and a full, complex, and elegant nose with notes of intense red fruit and plum with underbrush nuances. On the palate, it is balanced, silky, enveloping, and complete, with well-integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish. It is recommended to decant the wine a few hours before serving.
