Notes: Vigna Vecchia translates to 'Old Vineyard' and the 100% Barbera that makes up this bottle comes from the oldest portion of the Scarrone vineyard, with vines that date back 90 years. The vines are planted facing southeast and provide low yield due to the aged of the vines themselves, as well as the strict selection of the grapes upon harvest. The vinification process begins with a short cold soak to macerate the grapes, followed by two weeks of alcoholic fermentation in steel vats with regular pump-overs. After the wine macerates for another week, the wine is racked and transferred into oak for malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 18 months in a combination of large oak casks, barriques, and steel tanks.
Aromatically this wine is floral and fruity, with notes of blackberries and fresh leather. On the palate, the wine is full of ripe blackberries, black cherries, and warm baking spices with soft tannins and balancing acidity.
