Notes: Larry Hyde's Hyde Vineyard within Carneros is easily one of the most renowned domestic Chardonnay sites in the country, and TOR Wines waited 14 years for a chance to harvest from it. The soils are deep, heavy Haire clay loam with a hard clay subsoil and the vineyard itself is windswept. There is a cooling influence from its coastal morning fog which comes in from both the San Pablo Bay and the Petaluma Gap. The wine is made in Burgundian style, with native yeast fermentation. The wines ferment in small French oak barrels, of which only 20% is new before being bottled unfiltered and unfined.
Aromatically this wine brighter than its sister bottlings, with notes of sea spray and saline, and just a hint of vanilla. On the palate the wine has lemon zest and barely ripened yellow apples, as well as a touch of creme brûlée which gives it a lingering full body mouthfeel.
