Notes: Contrada Sciaranuovo is located on the northern side of Mt. Etna, between Montelaguardia and Passopisciaro. The land is 35 acres dedicated to agriculture, twelve of which are planted with vines and grow on volcanic soils with formations that date as far back as 40,000 years ago. The Vigna Vecchia indicates the section of the vineyard which was planted in 1960 and has the oldest vines. The 100% Nerello Mascalese grapes are harvested, pressed, and fermented in stainless steel tanks with selected yeast. The wine is then racked and undergoes malolactic fermentation before being aged in oak, a combination of Slavonian and French for one year. The wine is then aged in bottle for another year.
