Notes: Ramey's vineyards are located across various sites, including Lafranchi, Martinelli Laughlin Rd, Kilcullen, Dutton Sebastopol, and Westside Farms, contributing to the unique blend of the Russian River Chardonnay. These sites, characterized by cool climates and low vigor soil such as Goldridge Loam, are planted with a majority of UC Davis Clone 4, known for its prominent acidity and large clusters, along with lesser percentages of Wente and aromatic clones like Rued. Despite the challenges of varying rainfall and temperatures throughout the growing season, Ramey's dedicated team ensures optimal harvest times to capture the best flavors.
The grapes undergo a careful process of whole cluster pressing for phenolic delicacy, followed by native-yeast and full native malolactic fermentation in barrel, with sur lies bâtonnage. After aging for 12 months in French oak barrels (10% new) the wine is traditionally fined for clarity and bottled without filtration, resulting in a Chardonnay that reflects the rich terroir and meticulous winemaking process.
“Coming from special vineyard sites, our Chardonnays show great depth of flavor, length of finish, aromatic complexity, and a fine balance between richness and delicacy. Typically, the climate is cool and the soil vigor low, producing graceful yet vibrant wines.” – David Ramey
