Notes: Originally planted in 1858 by pioneering Napa vintner Dr. George Belden Crane, this site has been farmed by renowned grape grower Andy Beckstoffer since 1997. Combining gravelly loam soils with a prime location in St. Helena, the vineyard yields Cabernet Sauvignon with opulent fruit, polished tannins, and inimitable finesse.
The vineyard has a flat topography (0-3% slope) with eastern and western exposure. The soil is composed of gravelly, alluvial soils; cortina and bale loam. Clone selected are 4 and 337, planted in 1998 on rootstock 110r with vertical shoot positioning, bilateral cordon.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon hand-harvested at night, with shears only. Grapes are hand-sorted while still cold from the field. Fermented in small, closed-top stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. 5 day cold soak, 28 day total maceration. Gentle pumpovers and délestage. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged 20 months in French oak barrels; 84% new from selected coopers: Darnajou, Taransaud, Baron, Leroi, Boutes, Oenowood, Marchive, Epocure, Vicard. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
