NOTES: Domaine Leflaive cultivates 2.16 hectares (5.34 acres) in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, the flagship region of the Mâconnais. This area is cordoned to the west by a flotilla of prow-shaped rocks, with the Rock of Solutré being the most famous. The bowl at the foot of the Rock of Solutré is the heartland of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, featuring some of the best soil strata for Chardonnay in all of Burgundy. Composed of fossiliferous marl and marly limestone, the area was under the shallow Jurassic sea millions of years ago. The vineyard is 100% biodynamic, with vines planted in 1960 and 2012, benefiting from South-East to South-West exposure. The Pouilly-Fuissé bottling consists of 12 parcels of land, with vines planted between 1960 and 2011 on shallow calcareous clay soil with southern exposure. The domaine's first vintage bottled under the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation was in 2013. The fruit is hand harvested into grape boxes, pressed in Verzé, and then transported to Puligny for fermentation and aging. Fermentation occurs in stainless-steel tanks with indigenous yeast, followed by 100% Malolactic fermentation. The wine ages for 12 months in oak casks (20% new), then 6 to 7 months in small stainless-steel tanks. This meticulous process results in a wine that beautifully expresses the unique terroir of Pouilly-Fuissé, offering complexity and depth.
