Vineyard: Our Sta. Rita Hills bottling is sourced from two opposing but complementary vineyards: Patterson and Sebastiano. Patterson lies on a north-facing slope of the Santa Rosa Hills, just above Sine Qua Non’s estate vineyard, 11 Confessions. Sebastiano sits opposite Patterson at high elevation on a steep south-facing slope at the eastern edge of the Sta. Rita Hills. Planted in 2007 on clay loam over limestone, the Syrah at Sebastiano is exposed to relentless Pacific winds.
Tasting: Our Sta. Rita Hills Syrah is a blend of two vineyards from a critical eastern juncture of the appellation, where the grape truly shines. Black currant, pancetta tesa and tapenade introduce a taut, fresh Syrah that takes firm hold of the palate with darker elements of plum skin and cacao nib. Vibrant, though a little stern in its youth, the wine’s structure and penchant for food will guide it through a long drinking window.
